Ready to build a hero identity

Choose a name format, story world, hero role, and the mission or power behind the hero.

Drawing on one of the world's most extensive naming libraries, our purpose-trained AI naming agent thoughtfully explores ideas tailored to you. This process usually takes 20-30 seconds; thank you for your patience while we find the right fit.

A clearer way forward

Build a superhero name that carries a power, a public role, and a reason to act.

A superhero name generator is most useful when it helps you test more than a dramatic word pair. This tool turns a chosen identity format, profile, story world, hero role, power or symbol, tone, and optional story notes into an original shortlist. Each result explains how its sound and imagery connect to the brief, what public role it suggests, and what limitation can keep the character usable in a story.

How to use the Superhero Name Generator

Start with Name format. Choose Superhero alias / codename for a public identity, Secret identity (real name + alias) when the character needs an ordinary name as well as a heroic one, Hero team name for a group, or Title or epithet for a legend-like identity.

Then choose a Profile, Story world, and Hero role. Add a power, special skill, tool, or visual symbol when it should affect the name. Select one or more tones, choose 10, 20, or 30 suggestions, and select Generate superhero names.

Open Options for more control:

  • Power connection chooses whether the identity names the ability directly, suggests it through imagery, contrasts with it, or leaves the approach open.
  • Hero mission gives the result a specific public purpose instead of only a mood.
  • Name to draw from lets the AI borrow initials, rhythm, or a loose sound cue from a submitted name. It is not a translation or an identity lookup.
  • Symbol or visual theme adds a concrete image such as lanterns, birds, vines, transit maps, or star charts.
  • Alias starts with constrains the public alias.
  • Words or sounds to avoid removes unwanted cliches from the returned identity and variants.

The optional Additional details field is for the city, costume, rescue style, team dynamic, public reputation, era, origin, or rival. The preset chips provide editable starting points for a power-based city hero, a female hero alter ego, and a young hero team.

The page asks the AI for exactly the selected number of structured results. If the response is incomplete or does not follow the selected name format, profile, story world, role, prefix, and exclusion rules, the page shows a retry state instead of a partial list.

Superhero name generator based on powers

For a superhero name generator based on powers task, describe the mechanism rather than only an element. “Bends streetlight into temporary shields” gives the generator a clearer naming direction than “light powers.” Then choose a Power connection:

  • Direct makes the ability readable immediately. It suits broad public identities and team-book action.
  • Subtle uses consequence, movement, material, or symbol rather than naming the power literally.
  • Ironic creates a deliberate contrast that can reveal personality or public image.
  • No preference lets the generator choose a direction for each result.

Every returned dossier includes a Power or method connection note. Use it to decide whether the alias gives away too much, is too vague, or creates a useful layer of mystery. The same result also includes a Limit or contradiction so a powerful ability still leaves room for stakes.

Female superhero names, hero teams, and secret identities

Set Profile to Female for a female superhero name generator brief, Male or Gender-neutral for a specific presentation, or Team / group when you need a collective identity. Leave it on Any for a varied shortlist.

Profile changes presentation, not competence, costume, or role. A strong female hero brief is more specific than a gender label: “an emergency engineer who reroutes wind around rescue sites” gives the name a real job to do. A team brief improves when you add the group’s shared task, such as protecting a school district, a floating city, or an interplanetary transit line.

For a superhero secret identity name generator or superhero alter ego name generator task, select Secret identity (real name + alias). The returned civilian name and public alias are separate fields, allowing you to judge whether they conceal, echo, or intentionally contrast with one another. For a group, choose Hero team name; the civilian identity field is left empty because the result represents the team rather than one person.

A superhero name generator based on your name

Use Name to draw from for the task behind a superhero name generator based on name search. The tool may use the submitted name's initials, cadence, consonant pattern, or a loose sound association. It does not translate a real name, identify a person, or promise that the source will be unrecognizable.

Add a power or symbol at the same time. A source name alone often creates weak surface similarity. A stronger brief combines a source name, a public mission, and an image: “Maya, builds temporary bridges from sound, protects evacuation routes, lantern motif.” In the details dialog, read How the identity was built to see the stated connection.

Read the hero dossier, not only the alias

Each card shows the superhero alias, optional civilian identity, pronunciation, hero role, story world, power theme, tone tags, and a concise description. Select View details to inspect the full dossier:

  1. Identity structure: confirms the core alias, title, civilian name, or epithet.
  2. Power connection: explains how directly the name reflects the ability or symbol.
  3. Hero role fit: tests whether the identity belongs to the requested public function.
  4. Story-world fit: checks the creative direction without claiming franchise compatibility.
  5. Service mission and limit: turn the name into a character who can act and face consequences.
  6. In use: lets you hear the name in a short line of narration or dialogue.

The four scores estimate brief fit, heroic presence, readability, and story potential for the current request. They are AI comparison aids, not popularity data, originality proof, legal clearance, or evidence that an audience will prefer one result.

Save candidates with the heart button. Favorites are stored locally in this browser. Copy a single identity or the visible list, use browser speech to hear the alias, use the spin wheel when several finalists remain, or select New ideas to send the same brief again.

Original genre directions, not official Marvel, DC, or MHA names

Searches such as Marvel superhero name generator, DC superhero name generator, and MHA superhero name generator show an interest in energetic superhero storytelling. This page uses those as broad creative signals only. It does not create official Marvel, DC, or My Hero Academia characters, aliases, teams, schools, cities, agencies, powers, terminology, or lore.

Choose Original comic-book for a clear visual alias, Modern city hero for a grounded public identity, Anime-inspired original for heightened emotional and visual direction, or Japanese-inspired original for a broad aesthetic cue. The latter is not a Japanese-language validator and should not be treated as a source of a real person's Japanese name. For a campaign-scale fantasy hero, use High fantasy or Tabletop fantasy and add the world-specific details that actually matter.

For character concepts that need an opposing force as well, the Villain Name Generator uses separate archetype, motive, and weakness controls. For a civilian surname before building a secret identity, the Last Name Generator provides a different naming workflow.

Illustrative superhero-name patterns

The examples below explain the form and result fields. They are illustrative examples, not verified live generation results or cleared names.

Brief Illustrative result What to inspect
City hero who bends streetlight into shields; subtle power connection Lantern Arc Whether the light image feels protective without spelling out the ability
Female rescue specialist; secret identity; wind redirection Maya Vale - Gale Harbor Whether the civilian identity and public alias have an intentional but not obvious connection
Teen team that protects a transit system The Signal Line Whether the group image is easy to say and leaves room for individual members
Mythic guardian of migrating birds The Northbound Warden Whether the title suggests a public role and a workable responsibility

Before public use, search exact candidates and close variants. A generated name can resemble an existing character, creator, publication, organization, game, trademark, or account.

Fix generic or overpowered results

If the results feel generic, replace broad adjectives with one concrete mechanism, one mission, and one image. “Hopeful, cool, strong” is less useful than “uses solar fabric to stabilize damaged buildings; protects a neighborhood market; orange kite motif.”

If the names all describe the power too literally, switch Power connection to Subtle or Ironic and add a symbol. If the list feels too vague, use Direct and provide a clearer ability. If a request fails, retry once, then loosen the least important constraint: remove a rare starting string, shorten the avoided-word list, lower the result count, or change the power connection to No preference. Your submitted values stay in the form.

Questions about generated superhero names

Does the tool create official Marvel, DC, MHA, or other franchise names?

No. It creates original, non-canon suggestions and is instructed not to copy franchise characters, aliases, teams, schools, organizations, places, terminology, or catchphrases.

Can I make a superhero name from my real name?

Yes, as loose creative input. Use Name to draw from and inspect the construction note. The result may borrow rhythm, initials, or sound, but it is not a translation, a lookup, or a guarantee of anonymity.

Does it make superhero teams?

Yes. Select Hero team name, set Profile to Team / group, then describe the team mission, members, city, school, or shared power theme in the optional fields.

Does it check whether the name is available?

No. It does not search character databases, comics, games, films, books, domains, social accounts, trademarks, or current publications. Check exact names and close variants independently.

Where are saved superhero names stored?

Favorites are stored in local browser storage on the current device. They do not sync to another browser or account and can disappear if site data is cleared.
